Little Chef and I have been on a mission to find lots of playgrounds in Perth for Buggybuddys. This took us to the southern suburbs, and we stopped by The Roastery in Canning Vale to re-fuel. The Roastery is found at Essence of Coffee, a small batch artisan coffee roaster. So I had high hopes for a quality cuppa joe.

The large, warehouse style café was bustling with brunch-ers, and we managed to squeeze in and find a table. I was worried we’d missed the bunch cut off. Luckily for me, The Roastery run an all day brunch/lunch menu.

The flat white was as good as I’d expected it to be. Little Chef loved the coffee art – what a cute snowman! The menu has plenty of all day brunch and lunch options. The service is easy, with ordering at the counter and the staff were very friendly and happy to help with my questions.

Little Chef enjoyed an extra frothy babycino, as well as a lemon slice for morning tea. The kids menu offers breakfast and lunch options, as well as kids combo drink options. The waffles sound particularly tempting!

The Food

My first choice of eggs benedict wasn’t gluten free, so I picked the “super rosti” of cauliflower, zucchini, and corn with a poached egg, onion jam and radiccio salad. The rosti ($18) was delicious dipped into the smear of house-made labneh, sumac, sukkah and sunflower seeds. This is a tasty and super fresh dish, though on the light side, which may not satisfy you if you’re super hungry.

As a side note… it annoys me when things that should be gluten free (ie Hollandaise sauce) have gluten in. Usually this is because it’s a “bought in” mass-produced product – not something that is made fresh, from scratch.

Talking of fresh – there’s loads of freshly baked goodies in the cabinet!

The toy corner for “Junior Baritas” is a little more inventive than your average café play area. There’s a a cute coffee-shop set up with cash register and coffee machine for kids to play with.

The Roastery is worth stopping by for brunch, lunch and a good coffee.
