The Best Gluten Free Restaurants and Cafes in Perth

Need a guide to Perth’s best gluten free restaurants, bakeries, and GF cafes with plenty of gluten free menu options? This is it!

Here’s a not-so-fun fact – I’m gluten intolerant. Two words, that when used together, strike fear into foodies. It hasn’t always been so, I was diagnosed in 2017, when I was in my 30s. I’d shown symptoms for years, probably since I was in primary school, but I never really connected the dots. As much as it pains me to say, giving up gluten was the best thing that I ever did. I felt almost instantly better; regular migraines, bloating and other uncomfortable symptoms disappeared overnight.

My main worry going sans-gluten was I’d miss out on the good stuff. You know, cakes, pastries, breads and all that jazz. My future was instead destined for loaves of ‘sad bread’ – my name for tiny store-bought GF bread. Luckily, what I’ve found in the last nine years is Perth’s gluten-free dining scene is absolutely thriving. There are even coeliac accredited restaurants in Perth and 100% gluten free cafes. It’s also handy to know GF brunch spots that are very aware of cross contamination, I’ve had that feeling of when your avo toast arrives and the bread just looks suspiciously ‘too good to be GF’, too many times.

Here’s my guide to the life-saving spots around Perth that cater to those who are gluten-challenged. Even if you’re not gluten free yourself, chances are you’ll be dining with a friend or family member who is, so feel free to bookmark this page as a handy guide.

Gluten Free Cafes in Perth

Bayside Barista, Shoalwater

One of the very few Perth coeliac safe cafes, Bayside Barista is fully accredited with Coeliac Australia. Whatever your level of intolerance, you can rest easy and order absolutely anything from the menu, without a single moment of anxiety. That is a treat in itself! A block back from the beach, I enjoyed something I rarely find GF on a menu – banana bread French toast. Topped with caramelised bananas, whipped mascarpone and lashings of syrup it was as lush as it sounds!

Canning River Cafe, Wilson

Sometimes a gluten-friendly menu can be found in the most unexpected of places. I dropped by Canning River Cafe, on a dog walk and was so pleasantly surprised by its plentiful amount of GF options on the brunch menu. And when I say plentiful options, pretty much everything (Even random dishes like breakfast tacos, waffles, fritters) is GF or can be made gluten free – happy days. I forgot to take a pic of my brunch – but their gluten free tarts are also delish.

Finlay and Sons, Inglewood

A Beautfort Street staple, I’ve visited Finlay and Sons many a time for their thick cut bacon, great coffee and menu heavily laden with GF goodies. The Inglewood icon is consistently reliable for a top brunch and always welcoming for gluten-free diners. Read more in my review.

Be Free, East Perth

One of the downsides of living with a GF diet is missing out on a lot of wheat-based comfort foods. Waffles is one of these – so I was SO happy to see GF waffles of the Be Free menu! The East Perth Cafe, at Perth City Farm, has a nutritious, seasonal produce-driven wholefoods take on its brunch menu, with a sprinkle of GF options. A haven for clean eating.

Moore and Moore, Fremantle

Housed in a gorgeous Freo heritage building, Moore and Morre is an excellent stop for gluten-intolerant diners. The all-day brunch menu is packed with GF or GFO dishes – in fact last time I visited only 1 menu item (hotcakes) couldn’t be made gluten free! The setting inside, or in the eclectic courtyard is very Freo and I just love it. Read more in my review.

Pearth Organic Kitchen, West Leederville

Perfect for a healthy, wholesome breakfast, Pearth has good GF options and also caters well for vegans and vegetarians. I love that Pearth don’t use processed products or refined sugars in their cooking. For me, having a guilt free brunch is great, especially as I’m sensitive to some food additives and preservatives too. I like knowing what I’ve got on my fork is going to 100% nourish my body. Their cakes look epic too – I must return. Read more in my review.

White’s Mill and Grind, Stoneville

A lot of my clients, including the Shire of Mundaring, are based in the Perth Hills. So whenever I’m out and about in that region, I just happen to pop by one of my absolute faves for coffee and cake – White’s Mill and Grind! There’s not one, but 2 GF highlights. A counter packed with house-made bakes – not bought in orange and almond cake AGAIN. I’m always spoilt for choice and there’s a completely different line up every time. This thick cut white choc, berry banana bread was a fave. Also, they make a delicious bagel, with GF options too. This spot is not only great for food, I just love the genuinely smiley-warm vibe.

Gluten Free Restaurants in Perth

Lucy Luu, Mount Hawthorn

Looking for a gluten free date night restaurant in Perth? Lucy Luu is my pick. Mr H and I have been the a few times know and we always love it. The atmosphere is vibrant, and their delicious modern Asian share menu (also MGG free – yaya) is incredibly gluten-free friendly, making ordering and sharing with those non GF-ers so easy. I love their crisp popcorn chicken with yuzu mayo and the wok-fried broccoli… the garlicy sauce is addictive – trust me. Read more in my review.

Itsara, Nedlands

For upscale, refined Thai dining, Itsara is exceptional for GF menu options. Not just because authentic Thai cooking naturally relies heavily on rice, herbs, and tamari rather than wheat-based soy sauce, a huge portion of their menu is naturally safe. Their lush green-house style dining room is stunning too. Read more in my review.

Chakra, Inglewood

There are SO MANY gluten-free options at this modern Indian favourite. Sonia and Kuma’s innovative menu has many of the usual favourites, plus a few welcome surprises like gluten free naan bread! Whilst the methods of cooking and recipes remain authentic, their modern presentation freshens it up. It’s always a delight dining there, I’ve visited many times over the years. Bad Love Burger Co. West Leederville

Yes, you can still have a dirty, indulgent smash burger! Bad Love (in my opinion Perth’s BEST burger joint) offers excellent gluten-free bun alternatives that don’t crumble into dust the moment you pick them up. Their lacy, crisp smash burgers are the bom-digity. Plus, their fried chicken is also GF – which means you’re going to have to make more than one visit! 95% of their menu is either gluten free, or has a GF option.

La Cabana, South Fremantle

A massive win, this trendy coastal Mexican’s menu is almost entirely gluten-free by nature. Because they use traditional corn tortillas, you can eat your way through almost the entire menu safely. On this menu, dishes with gluten are marked, and there’s only a one or two! I loved the vibe and would absolutely return.

Miss Chows, South Perth & Margaret River

Want to know where to find the best gluten free dumplings in Perth? Head to Miss Chow’s! Set right on the foreshore, this modern Asian eatery has a menu is designed for sharing, with a strong focus on gluten-free options. Dumplings are, of course, a cornerstone of the Miss Chow’s experience. Their gluten-free signature steamed dumplings filled with pork, chicken and vegetables are delicate but satisfying. La Fattoria, Pickering Brook

In my nearly decade of eating gluten free, one trend I’ve noticed is that when a Chef’s family is gluten intolerant or coeliac, this is often reflected in the menu. At family-run winery, La Fattoria, Owners Eric and Lucy’s daughter is gluten intolerant. Geordie has even created her own line of GF baking, selling ‘Geordie’s Forno‘ bread and more at the cellar door (though I don’t think she currently is). Whenever we visit, we like to ‘pick a platter’, which must include the chisciol, a traditional Italian mini-pancake-like dish topped with fresh rocket, eaten soft taco style. Made with buckwheat, it’s also gluten free. Read more in my review.

Bettys Burgers, Various

Gluten free peeps will know the GF bread struggle is real. I usually avoid it, but it’s hard, with burgers. Probably the best bread rolls I’ve ever eaten was at QLD-based chain Betty’s Burgers. It was actually fluffy – unheard of! So I really enjoyed the Betty’s Deluxe with an addition of avo, darn tasty angus beef burger, heaped with crispy bacon, pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, and Betty’s special sauce. I wasn’t expecting that and I’m impressed. Read more in my review.

Piggy Food Co, North Fremantle

A North Freo small bar with a Southern Californian style menu first popped up in pop up restaurant in 2014. At the Piggy Food Co they’ve adopted the traditional Mexican baja deep frying style. The flaky fish is coated in gluten free cornflour and then fried in extra hot oil, until crisp. They make the tasty hand pressed corn tortillas in house – stuffed with the meat of your choice, crisp slaw and a chunky salsa fresca. So darn good! Read more in my review.

Mano Wraps, Busselton and Dunsborough

If you’ve never had the pleasure of devouring one of these buckwheat wraps – do yourself a favour! I’m not exaggerating when I say these heathy, but incredibly delicious wraps are one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth. The crepe wraps are filled with a choice of components, the bacon, melted brie, avo and salad a big fave of mine. They are huge and SO filling.

A few more GF friendly restaurants I haven’t visited in a while:

  • Solo Pasta in Mount Lawley – pasta by the meter, plenty of GF options.
  • El Publico – a Highgate Mexican with loads of GF dishes to try.
  • Great British Chippy in Currambine -separate fryer for fish and Pommie-style chips and even GF onion rings!

A few Perth GF-friendly restaurants I haven’t visited myself are:

  • HIGH on my list for far too long, is Venezuelan steakhouse Angel Falls Grill in the city’s Shafto Lane.
  • Opposite Angel Falls, Rojiura Curry Samurai, sounds perfect for a comforting bowl of Hokkaido soup, GF, of course.
  • Meninas Grill, on the Beaufort Street strip, is one of only a couple of Coeliac Accredited restaurants in Perth. The Spanish steakhouse sounds delish and I hope to get there soon!
  • I hear that Double Rainbow is amazing, but I’m a woos when it comes to lots of spice Shall I give it a go?

100% Gluten Free Bakeries in Perth

These bakeries are all 100% gluten-free. While there are other bakeries and patisseries in Perth that offer GF options (like Prague Bakery), I’m just not that confident about cross-contamination when that much flour is flying around a kitchen. Here are my Perth GF bakery go-to’s:

Dough Street, Balcatta

The hype is real. Dough Street pretty much constantly has a queue out the door, and for good reason. This is the place for all those cravings that a trip to the local cafe just can’t cure – those flaky-pastry hankerings especially. I’ve visited a few times and almost cried when I ate a sauseage roll for the first time in nearly a decade – true story. Plus they have so many sweet and savory treats is hard to tear yourself away from the cabinet without a box full of goodies – and a crookie (croissant x cookie) or two.

Strange Grains, Shenton Park

Amazing gluten-free bread! Their sourdough loaves have won mainstream baking awards (like at the Perth Royal Show) against traditional wheat breads because the texture, crust, and chew are so phenomenally accurate. Goodbye, sad bread! Plus, the bakery has plenty other sweet and savoury goods to tempt you.

Panna Artisan, Darringtons and Champagne & Gumboots (closing October 2026) are also worth a visit. I’ll be sad to see Stacy’s Swan Valley spot go – her high teas are scrumptious – where will I get a GF scone now?!

OMG Decadent Donuts, Various

This is a food truck with a difference – found around Perth and WA. My local often sets up in my local Stirk Park, Kalamunda – dangerous! Catering for heaps of dietary requirements, these tasty morsels are gluten free, yeast free, dairy free, no gmos, sulphite free,
egg free, nut free, wheat free, plant-based, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. It does make me wonder what they are actually made from! Nonetheless, they are so yummy freshly made and dusted in cinnamon sugar. They are also fully accredited by Coeliac Australia.

Please note that I’m gluten intolerant, not coeliac. It’s always good to be mindful of kitchen errors, chat directly with waitstaff and trust your gut – pun intended.
