What’s in a name? Frisch and Barc in Como is all about community. Back in the 1800s, Austrian Karl Ritter von Frisch made a Nobel prize winning discovery about bees and their beehives (a Barc). They’re all part of a community and the barc is it’s hub. Here, the owners have hoped to create a community hub and somewhere for locals to meet, their own little “barc” in Como.
Now we’ve had a little history lesson – let’s get to brunch! Inside, the Canning Highway café has a minimalist Scandinavian feel. There’s a beautiful bird mural that dominates the stairwell and there’s seating upstairs and down.
Nays and I ordered a couple of coffees, which went down a treat. They use Mano a Mano, roasted in West Perth. There are some delicious sounding dishes on the menu, which has a very International feel. There’s a Cubano, a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich (!), brioche French toast, Singapore chili crab omelette and more to choose from. There were abut 3 GF options, keeping me happy.
The Food
Nays chose the rhubarb and strawberry bircher muesli ($14.90), topped with yogurt, toasted almonds and a rhubarb compote. She remarked that it was a tasty and filling dish. The only let down was rhubarb was a little stringy and tough.
Me? I chose the smoked beed benedict ($19.50). Thinly sliced grilled smoked beef is bursting with flavour and sits ontop of caramelised onion and toast. Sadly, there was no #eggporn from the two poached eggs. The yolks were still shiny, but just ever so slightly over the point of being runny. No biggie. The house made hollandaise brought it all together and it’s a cracking brekkie dish. The GF bread, cut very thickly was excellent.
Frisch and Barc has recently celebrated it’s first birthday and it’s amassed a very popular following in that time. The food is very tasty and well priced too. My tip is to breakfast early, as it may otherwise be a bit tricky to score a car park or a table. Recommended!

This is making me want breakfast all over again! Yum! I have heard a few good things about this place, but have yet to head down that way. Might just have to now. Thanks for the tip!
