Little H, Duncraig

IMG_9533Little H may as well be called “Little G”, because it is 100% a little gem, hidden in suburbia. Off the beaten track in Duncraig, you’d never know it was there unless you were a local. Thank goodness for social media!IMG_9529

The café is small and very on trend, with concrete walls, broken up with lush indoor plants. Outside is a small patio, draped in lightbulbs, which is lovely place to sit on a sunny day. We found a hexagonal table inside. The odd shape looks cool, but a little impractical, since you can’t fit as much food and drink on it. The coffee is good, and I was buzzing after such a big mug.IMG_9513

I popped along for a weekday brunch with my parents. We arrived just before the breakfast cut-off time of 11.30am. We looked over both the lunch and breakfast menus, of course I wanted something from the brekkie menu, while my parents were happy with lunch. The lunch menu does still feature lots of brunchy dishes. I’m a lot more restricted to what I can eat now. The GF mushroom dish really tickled my fancy.20170802_112803

I really don’t feel comfortable asking for special treatment. I hate to put people out. My Mum, on the other hand, sits firmly in the “you don’t ask, you don’t get” category. I wish some of her assertiveness had rubbed off on me! She coaxed me to ask if I could order a breakfast dish at 11.31am(!) with their lunch dishes. After a little umming and arring from a waitress, the Chef seemed to have no issue with it. I was so grateful. It’s this kind of flexibility and customer service that I really appreciate and will reward with repeat custom.

Our dishes came out in good time. I really enjoyed the thyme buttered mushrooms, with creamy goats chevre on toast, ($14). I’m so glad I plucked up the courage to order this tasty dish! Next time I think I’d add an egg too.20170802_115037

My Dad devoured the pork belly burger. The chunky, crisp belly looked delicious and the burger was brimming with slaw. I had serious food envy with this one!IMG_9518

The chicken salad, with pumpkin and greens looked delicious too. My mum really enjoyed something light. I pinched a bit of chicken which was tender and flavoursome.IMG_9521

All in all we thought Little H is a fab brunch spot. Tasty, well cooked food, pleasing customer service, chic surroundings and good coffee too. With a certain Little Chef starting sport just around the corner soon, we’ll be sure to be back. Well worth checking out for brekkie, brunch and lunch.IMG_9535
