Where’s the best coffee in Perth’s CBD? You might have missed it! Down the city’s many laneways and arcades, you’ll find some hidden coffee spots that are not to be missed.
If you’re a street art fan like myself, and like a bit of culture with your caffeine, you will be able to spy some of Perth’s most vibrant works near some of these spots too. So follow the aroma of freshly ground beans and discover a favourite new coffee haunt today!
Max + Sons
Head off the beaten track, down Rail Lane and you’ll find Max & Sons. Here, the friendly baristas are likely to remember your name after a few coffee runs. Their excellent coffee is a custom blend that is developed with Five Senses and the maple bacon and cream cheese bagels are not to be missed!

Uncle Joe’s Mess
At what first appears to be a King Street barber shop, head down a corridor and you’ll find Uncle Joe’s Mess, where they serve up their own “Joes Blend” roasted by Dimattina Coffee. At this cool little spot you can escape the bustling city streets and enjoy a chilled brunch with funky tunes.

Standing Room Only
You get the feeling that at Standing Room Only the baristas are deadly serious about their coffee, which is outstanding and many rate as amongst the very best of Perth CBD’s coffee spots. There’s nothing else to lose their focus, no food or fancy smoothies, just good honest caw-fee.

Hopper Espresso
This popular little coffee shop in Shafto Lane, brews up a top house blend as well as offering four different single origin coffees. They even have a range of quality milks to choose from including local Banister Downs and Bonsoy. Their food offering is sure to tame those lunch time cravings too.

The Wolf Espresso
Wolf Espresso is found on Wolf Lane which is a mecca for vibrant murals by local and international street artists in the Perth CBD. Here you can indulge in a guilt free treat with your Veneziano coffee as there’s a focus on balanced and healthy food.

Small Print
Hiding out of sight in the basement of Print Hall you’ll find Small Print, an artisan style bakery. Their coffee is top notch and their range of coffee beans are sourced from around the world. A great little spot to grab a coffee and a house baked pastry or pie before dashing to the office.

Toastface Grillah
Tucked away down Grand Lane you’ll find the grungy cool of Toastface Grillah. A top spot for a pimped up toastie and hip hop beats, their coffee is also well worth checking out, especially made for them by The Northbridge Coffee Roasters.

BLK Espresso
Need a caffeine fix while shopping in the city? BLK Espresso is found just behind Topshop. As well as the aroma of their Café Aurora arabica beans, you’ll notice their striking hand drawn mural and moving wall art that tells the story of how coffee is made.

Babooshka
Just over the Horseshoe Bridge on William Street, you’ll discover Babooshka, a little café at the end of an arcade. The popular brunch spot and home to crazy triple doughnut milkshakes also makes a good cuppa coffee using a Blacklist roast.

Moana
The 5 Senses coffee at Moana is totally worth traipsing up the stairs for. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city with a coffee on their balcony, which overlooks Hay Street Mall. The café has a bohemian feel, the heritage building is shared with an artist-run exhibition space and holds regular acoustic gigs.

These coffee spots all may be hidden from view, but they’re well worth seeking out for a caffeine hit in the city! A girl can only drink so much coffee, so you might want to check out these other out-of-sight spots that I’m going to try next time I’m in the city…
