Sometimes it’s the places closest to home that get overlooked. We’d been to leapfrogs café a few times over the years, but we often get caught up in all the new openings of the CBD and inner Perth area. When we want to eat out, but don’t want to travel far – Leapfrogs is perfect for us. Its casual, great for families and welcoming, the staff are very friendly. We dined on a warm evening with Little Chef and Mrs and Mrs S. The dining areas are mainly alfresco, under a huge pergola, which overlooks the lush Wanneroo Botanical Gardens.
Part-owners Mark and Karen Gill have transformed Leapfrogs Café over the last few years. It’s been extended and renovated as it grew in popularity. No longer is it just somewhere to stop for refreshment after a round of Putt Putt, but a destination in its own right. Chef Mark Gill is formerly from Little Creatures – so it comes as no surprise that Leapfrogs also has fantastic pizzas.
They have a selection a delicious wood-fired pizzas at Leapfrogs – but if you’re feeling creative you can design your own combo of ingredients for your topping on the house-made pizza bases. Chef and Mr S both opted to make your own – and they both loved their results. Little Chef loved his kids pizza too – he couldn’t wait to eat it!!
I was looking for something a little light and opted for a Vego Salad ($22). It was full of blue cheese, pistachio nuts, orange segments, fennel, mesculin leaves, cucumber with a bright pink raspberry vinaigrette – it was very tasty.
Mrs S had a Chicken Caesar salad with crispy bacon, shaved parmesan & a poached egg ($24.50)
With some bar-like nooks, it is a nice place for some nibbles and drinks with friends too.
Leapfrogs is also very popular with cyclists on the weekends; biking around Lake Joondalup and the lycra brigade too (like chef!). If you’re after a casual meal close to home or even a drive up to the Joondalup area and play a bit of putt putt and have a spot of lunch – Leapfrogs is a great place to stop.
