One of my work besties, Kez, had been telling me about new-ish restaurant Little Guildford for months. We finally made a date to visit it recently. It was all she had described and more. It’s on the lovely Swan Street – right opposite the Rose and Crown. We’d gone there on a Sunday lunch time, they don’t take bookings, due to the brunch crowd. We were happy to “wing it” though, given the Rose & Crown was a good plan B for food.
“Little Guilford” is a quaint slice of this historic Perth suburb. Housed in an old building it is brimming with character and times gone by – the old photo mural is a great touch. You can dine alfresco, under the large umbrellas out front. You can also dine indoors, in the tardis-like dining room. We decided to sit out the front, on the high tables. It was a great spot and a tad quieter than inside.
I thought that the lunch menu was very reasonably priced. I chose the Seafood Chowder ($22). The hearty wintery dish didn’t disappoint! It was full of yummy little morsels of salmon, prawns, bacon and potatoes. It was creamy and seasoned well.
Mushroom Rissotto ($26) The risotto was cooked well and had lots of earthy mushroom and truffle oil flavours. It was finished with chunks of swiss brown mushrooms, fresh asparagus and lashings of shaved parmesan.
For dessert we had the “Cake of the Day” – a very moist Chocolate Cake and a Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee $9
Both of these sweet little delights were scrumptious! The coffee at Little Guildford is great too. It’s a super spot for lunch and their breakfast/brunch and dinner menus looks very tempting too.
