Padbury's Guildford - Simply PERTHfect

Padbury’s in Guildford has been around for over 20 years. Found in the heritage listed “Padbury Stores” building on the gorgeous Terrace Road, lined with century old cottages and the historic Rose and Crown Hotel. It’s been a few years since I had dinner there and when I visited recently for brunch I was so pleased to see that the quaint spot has had a very classy makeover.

This time, I didn’t sit in the window dining space, under the sparkling chandelier, but we still enjoyed a table by the striking vertical garden.

The service was warm and on the ball. I enjoyed the coffee, which is a crema roast.

I spied my favourite teacups, which are also found at the Hyatt. The beautiful Royal Albert cups and saucers are used in their weekend high teas too.

Padburys Guildford – The Food

For brunch, my Mum chose the summer hollandaise ($22). Which, given the chilly winter day, was fresh, vibrant and summery. The dish is usually served on a toasted bagel, but they had run out, so it was instead served on fresh sourdough. On top of the thick cut toast was crushed avo, crisp streaky bacon, two runny poached eggs and lashings of creamy hollandaise sauce.

I ordered the “Padburys Hash ($19). This was a much lighter dish with a thin and crispy rolled hash brown made from royal blue potatoes. I wondered if it would fill me up, and by the end of it, I was comfortabley full. I do think I’m guilty of over eating and loving too-big portions. Served with streaky bacon, two perfectly gooey poached eggs, a side salad and spicy tomato relish – it was very tasty.

I really enjoyed our tasty brunch at Padbury’s and as we left, the popular café was filling up even more for lunch. Afterwards we had a window shop in the neighbouring gift and homewares store “Panache Living” – which is also well worth a look.
