There’s a new café in the northern Suburbs! Swell, which opened just a few months ago, sure has a swell view of Mullaloo Beach. Found at the Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club, it has stunning uninterrupted views over the beach and Indian Ocean. At the entry there’s a deck for casual alfresco dining. Dogs are welcome in this area too.
The modern interior has natural basket-like light features, crisp timber furniture, and bold blue walls, giving it a coastal vibe.
It’s fresh, airy and a little bit chic, while still maintaining a casual feel.
And there’s a wraparound balcony out the back, where you’re so close to the beach you can almost touch the white sand.
My Mum, Little Chef and I swung by for a laid back weekend lunch. The Fiori coffee, roasted in the Swan Valley, is really really good.
Swell – The Food
On the lunch and dinner menu you’ll find small share plates, as well as more substantial dishes like burgers, gnocchi, salads and pizzas. The breakfast menu (7am till 11.30am) also looks really tasty with lots of options.
My Mum adored her three pulled WA lamb Kibbeh ($17.50). This Middle Eastern dish smelled amazing. The meaty balls sit upon a generous serve of creamy hummus, za’atar and pomegranate.
I chose the “many grains salad” (GFO) of quinoa, burghal, freekeh, charred cauliflower, PX crasins, almonds, ricotta, curry leaf, maple & turmeric dressing. It was a very generous and delicious dish, which you also have the option of adding chicken or salmon to. Knowing I was going to struggle to eat it all, I gave a little to my Mum to enjoy.
Little Chef was kept busy with a colouring/word search sheet till his Mac n Cheese arrived. It was a good serving (you just never know with kids meals!) and had a well dressed side salad too. All kids’ meals are $15 and include a drink.
We found the staff very friendly and attentive. In the end, the salad totally beat me, but our waitress was only too happy to put the remainder in a doggy bag. Winning!
Swell Mullaloo Beach would be a stunning spot for a early dinner to enjoy the sunset. We’ll be back, as I’m keen to check out their brunch offerings.
