Crowne Plaza Hotel, in East Perth, overlooks grassy Langley Park and the Swan River. Their restaurant Gusti is a contemporary place to dine, and not just for guests of the hotel. They invited me down to check out their new Tunes on the Terrace sundowner session, along with one of my friends Renee. We were only too willing to wind down after a busy working week, over a couple of Mojitos and share some tasty food.
Tunes on the Terrace are held on Fridays and Saturdays. There’s live music, and food and drink specials. We had planned on an evening of food and cocktails on the deck, but Perth’s weather wasn’t playing nice, so we had to make do with sitting indoors. Still, with a window set, it was easy to appreciate just how lovely it would we to sit there on a warm summers evening, as the sun sets.
We picked a few dishes to share from the Terrace menu, which is made up of casual, share-style food, easy to eat with one hand – since you’ll be sure to have a drink in the other! There are also burgers and pizzas if you’d like something more substantial.
My favourite share dish HAD to be the Salmon rillettes ($18). It is absolutely delicious and served with watercress, crispy croutons and an avocado dip.
Here’s some of the other dishes we enjoyed…
Wood fired pizza ($14) with mozzarella, tomato and herbs.
Tender BBQ chicken skewers ($16) with mango chilli jam and an Asian salad.
Crisp mushroom arranchini ($12) with tomato chutney.
The crispy fish tacos ($16) were Renee’s favourite dish. The soft tortillas are brimming with delicious fish, a herb salad and avocado.
The “4 Cheese platter” ($24) was brimming with creamy brie, Edam, blue vein, and aged cheddar. On the side are dried fruits, quince paste and crackers.
All these tasty morsels were washed down with a fresh and summery watermelon Mojito (made with Absolut vodka, watermelon liqueur, ginger beer, watermelon, lime, mint). Carafes are just $30 ($20 on Fridays!) and we got a few drinks out of that.
Other taste bud tempting share plate include bao, bruschetta, calamari and more!
If you work or live in the city, “Tunes on the Terrace” is an ideal way to start your weekend with friends or colleagues. Each sundowner there’s different live entertainment, providing a great atmosphere and something new each time.
It’s a great spot to dine under the palm trees, overlooking the river and Langley Park. Why not make a night of it and book a room at Crown Plaza too. See my Crowne Perth staycation blog here. It’s also a great idea for chillaxing before the American Express Open-air Cinema on Langley Park.
Gusti is open seven days for both hotel guests and locals, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Thanks to Suzie, Chef Vikas and their teams for a lovely evening.
