It was Chef’s birthday and since we had a gift voucher for newbie North Beach Deli, it was a no-brainer to go out and give him a night off cooking! I booked us in for dinner at the former Soda Café. The dining spot on West Coast Highway has recently had a refurb. It had been some years since we’d last had dinner there and we were wowed by it’s makeover and cool coastal vibe.
We opted for an early dinner at NBD, to ensure that we got to enjoy a little of the ocean view, before it got dark. The dining room is now light and bright, with splashes of blues and greens throughout – perfect for enjoying the sunset with a Mojito in hand.
North Beach Deli – The Food
Chef chose the beef fillet, $38, for his birthday meal. He enjoyed the perfectly medium rare black angus beef fillet, with potato fondant, brocollini and a creamy béarnaise sauce.
I really struggled to choose between the tastebud tempting duck pie and pork belly dishes. The waitress assured me they would be both good choices and I decided to be a little different and ordered the pie. Boy was I pleased! The duck confit and porcini pie, $36, sat in a pea & jamon floater and topped with crisp jullienne Jerusalem artichoke. The filo pastry was light and the pie was absolutely brimming with generous chunks of tender duck. It was deliciously different and perfect for this never ending Perth winter. 
Little Chef got his chops around a huge kids cheeseburger and chunky chips.
Our 7 year old has serious hollow legs at the moment, he must be having a growth spurt. He was still hungry, so Little Chef and I shared the fluffy lemon delicious pudding, $14, with a scoop of ginger ice-cream and crisp almond wafer.
Chef chose the crème Brule, $14, with caramelised pear and delicious honeyed ice cream.
North Beach Deli is well worth a visit. I’ve also been down there mid-morning for a coffee and it is absolutely brimming with brunchers! It’s sister venue – Soda Sunlounge is currently receiving a makeover too, so we’re looking forward to seeing that transformation just in time for summer.
