Toastface Grillah (Perth CBD)

Toastface Grillah on Urbanspoon

The first thing that grabbed me about this place was the name… “Toastface Grillah”; a twist on the name of US rapper Ghostface Killah (Wu Tang Clan). This place is a little bit “gangsta” too. To get there you really need to know your alleyways of the Perth CBD. It’s located in Grand Lane, which is named after the old Grand Theatre. The laneway is accessed off Barrack St (down the side of Hatters), off Murray St Mall and Wellington Street.

There is some fantastic street art tucked down here too. If you’re feeling a bit lost and see the giant Kookaburra or hummingbird – then you’re heading in the right direction!!

Toastface Grillah is a fantastic place for breakfast, brunch and lunch. We’ve been toasted sandwich fans since our childhood in the 80s. This is much more than your Mum’s simple “cheese and tomato toastie” though. This shrine to the humble jaffle is a brilliant idea. We visited TFG for a spot of brunch, on a rainy Thursday morning. It was just the thing to warm us up. The cafe itself is thrift shop chic. It’s very casual, with a few benches dotted around the courtyard; some cool beats coming out of the retro speakers.

We shared three different filings;

Danny Zuccho ($8)

Blue cheese, zucchini & prosciutto

Apple & Gouder ($8)

Apple, gouder, ham, onion

Three Cheese ($6)

Cheddar, gruyerre & emmantel

These were all superb in there gooey, oozey cheesy-ness. We loved them all, the blue cheese in the Danny Zucco was deliciously creamy and Chef loved the 3 Cheese, with its subtle hit of rosemary. There’s Coffee, Tea and bickies too. Sure, all they do is toasted Sarnies – but VERY well, with delicious, fresh ingredients.
