I had been itching to visit this eclectic Beaufort Street venue for a few months. I’d been hearing the buzz around town about Miss Kitty’s and it definitely lived up to the hype. I’d shown Chef the online menu, and he was a bit hesitant. For him and his “Modern Australian” approach to food, it looked very left of centre. But this is what I love about the evolving Perth dining scene at the moment. It’s increasingly hard to put places like this into a pigeon hole – and I love that!!
The decor in Miss Kitty’s is a quirky, fun mash-up of a Wild West Saloon; with a bit of op shop chic and some butchers shop props thrown in for good measure. The menu reflects that perfectly, with a rustic American/Canadian feel. We were seated at a long table, looking directly into the kitchen. We were very close to the action. Chef was watching it all unfold very closely; he would comment on expensive brand of knives one of the Chefs was using and the speed at which they were working! He must have thought he was at work!! Below, was our view, I felt like we were IN the kitchen!!
The service was excellent. We were told that the menu was mainly designed for sharing. It was also Tuesday, which meant their “Beer n Dog” special was on. Chef was onto that faster than a Bunning’s sausage sizzle! The spicy hot dog & beer also came with toasted tortilla chips and home-made guacamole. Great value for $16.80. I had the Miss Kitty’s take on Prawn Cocktail ($21). I thought the pork nuggets were absolutely more-ish, so juicy and delish! The red apple, lettuce, thousand island dressing were so fresh – I loved it.
We shared the Poutine ($12). This is a traditional French-Canadian dish. Fries are covered in chunks of cheese curds & lashings of gravy. You can add Foie Gras ($4), if you’re feeling a bit decadent. We really enjoyed this version of chips n gravy!
The Hot wing pancake ($4 each) started off great, we loved the topping of pickled carrot and blue cheese. There was a massive chilli kick to the ranch sauce on the chicken. It was a bit hot for me, but Chef thought it was relaly tasty – it went well with his beer!
We loved our desserts. Chef had the Pecan Butter Tart ($9) with maple sauce ice cream. He thought it was scrumptious, just wished that tart was a bit bigger! My Banoffee Pie ($9) was served in a jar; it was several layers of loveliness, a real treat.
Miss Kitty’s is also open for Brunch; I really liked the look of their brunch menu. Whether it’s for brunch or dinner – we’ll be back! We loved the Eccentric Miss Kitty’s. From the pigs heads in the bar fridge, to the wooden pallets adorning the walls, round white leather sofa and the honky tonk country music soundtrack – you’ll be in for a fun ride.
Miss Kittys Saloon – Open for dinner 5.27pm sharp!!!
“Ya’ll comeback now, ya hear!”
