The Suites at Dunsborough Marketplace

For me, there’s two types of getaway in Western Australia’s Southwest region – country retreats and town down-time. I often dream of a stay where everything I need is just steps away. I recently found out that you cannot get much more central than The Suites at Dunsborough Marketplace.

The Maple Suite

Positioned in the very center of town, at a new retail development, the four boutique, top floor apartments are an ideal spot to stay. We were booked for two nights at the modern two-bedroom Maple Suite – the perfect base for exploring the best of Dunsborough.

Found on Dunsborough’s main street, Dunn Bay Road, The Suites are right amongst the action of new foodie spots, quality retailers, cafes, wine bars and more. You’ll find plenty of local recs in the handy Indah Stays coffee table guide, or read on for my recommendations! Check in to The Maple Suite, found right above Gazman, was a breeze. We grabbed the keys and parking permits from a handy lock box.

From the moment you step through the door, the Maple Suite impresses with its fresh, contemporary design and thoughtful touches.

Both bedrooms feature queen beds (other suites have king bed options), ample storage behind built in mirrored robes, and the black out curtains are excellent.

There’s also direct access to a private balcony overlooking Dunn Bay Road – ideal for soaking up the afternoon sun with a vino or enjoying a morning coffee. Oh, there’s me relaxing in my Picnic sweater *wink*.

The sleek, well-lit bathroom is a highlight, with a luxe rain shower with decent water pressure.

There’s a handy laundry space with washing machine and dryer for longer stays.

The living area is bright and welcoming, with a large smart TV (super easy to hook up your Netflix or Kayo subscription), cosy sofa, and stylish touches like marble coasters and candle sticks (which may, or may not look like a plunger). There are even board games like Scrabble and Uno for those relaxed evenings in.

The kitchen is fully equipped for whipping up a meal (so convenient with Woolworths downstairs!). I found the appliances (microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, toaster etc) and plenty of plates, platters and utensils all hidden away behind the stylish cupboard doors.

There’s a kettle and Nespresso machine with a few pods too, for your morning brew.

Every detail is designed for comfort, from full-length mirrors and a quality hairdryer to heating and cooling controlled by a simple touchscreen pad.

What really sets The Suites apart is its unbeatable location for town-lovers. Step outside the sliding door and you’re immediately in the heart of Dunsborough Marketplace, the town’s new hub for fresh food, boutique shopping, and essential luxuries.

Downstairs, you’ll find a new Woolworths supermarket stocked with local produce, gourmet treats and even a mini travel-size product section.

I’d forgotten a few snacks and run out of lip balm, so this was so handy being in the same building!

Shop up a storm at specialty stores like beautifully curated clothing and gift shop Coastal Kids, menswear at Gazman, and Picnic Clothing. I shop at Picnic each time I stay in Dunsborough (the old store was located further down the road, towards the beach). I’ve always found the store to have a friendly one-on-one approach with no-pressure to buy. It’s almost like having a personal shopper – be sure to ask the lovely ladies for a bit of help if you stop by. I tried on sweaters (including a beautiful fluffy blue jumper), cardigans and a beautiful knit dress that I wouldn’t usually try, all looked classic, and I quickly added them to my winter wardrobe!

For quick, tasty bites, Sushi Sushi and Mano Wraps will cure hunger pangs. Mano Wraps (for wraps, coffee and ice cream) have just opened their second store, after the hugely popular OG outlet in Busselton. I am actually obsessed with their deliciously fresh (and gluten free!) buckwheat crepe wraps. I choose the wrap with a filling of bacon, brie and avo – I promise you it’s to die for. Whether you’re after a quick coffee, a stylish new outfit, or a delicious wrap for lunch, it’s all right at your fingertips.

Dunsborough Town

Take a short wander to explore the town’s gift shops, boutiques and Dunsborough’s beautiful foreshore – less than five minutes away on foot, perfect for a sunset stroll. If you’re feeling adventurous, scenic walking paths lead to the region’s most stunning coastal spots; Old Dunsborough, Castle Rock and Meelup Beach (if you really like a hike!). One morning I checked out a new spot on the foreshore, Sora Cafe, and enjoyed a coffee by the ocean.

Another morning, I took a stroll to local institution Merchant and Maker to grab a flat white to enjoy on the white sands of Geographe Bay.

The town is brimming with cafes, bakeries, bars and bistros. I’d have to stay for a month to try them all! We took a two-minute stroll to Bungalow Neighborhood Social one night and enjoyed a delicious feed over share plates (their char-grilled squid is so tender and tasty), spritzes and craft beer. I’m usually the designated driver, so I relished the opportunity not to have to drive home.

Just a short drive out of town, you’ll discover world-class wineries, artisan goodies, brilliant breweries and beautiful beaches. After several recommendations, we tried Goanna Bush Cafe (just south of town, past Happs Winery) and it was SO good! The bushland setting is peaceful. We loved our brunch (brisket with beans, polenta and poached eggs, plus a simple but amazing buttery scrambled eggs and crisp bacon) and are already planning on heading back again.

All in All – The Suites

Mr H and I loved The Maple Suite’s prime location, sparkling cleanliness, and the calming space. My only note, whenever you stay in a central town location, you should be mindful of noise. While the suite itself is very private and whisper quiet during the day – you may hear an early morning truck delivery if you are a light sleeper (it’s a good idea to pack earplugs if you want a sleep in).

Whether you’re planning a family holiday, a romantic escape, or a friends’ retreat, this apartment offers the perfect blend of luxury, relaxation, and convenience.

We enjoyed our few days at The Suites, and the opportunity to experience Dunsborough like a local. If you love the best of the town quite literally on your doorstep – the Maple Suite at Dunsborough Marketplace is a great choice to stay for a few nights.
