Found in the sleepy suburb of Conolly, just a short drive from Joondalup, FyRE restaurant sets the stage for a dining experience with mouthwatering meats as the hero. You may have heard of FyRE’s fiery exchange with an infamous Perth vegan. Well, let’s just say if you’re not of the meat-eating type, you won’t find much on the menu for you here at FyRE Connoly. And you know what, that’s ok! There’s plenty of other places in Perth for vegos to dine.

Head Chef and owner, Johnnie Mountain has a pedigree of classic cooking, and TV appearances on British cooking shows. I met him when he was running the short-lived “House of Conti” restaurant (just weeks before COVID hit the world) and found him quite the character. He’s passionate about dining, and he knows his stuff when it comes to plating up a memorable meal. He’s even worked with the who’s who of British culinary royalty (like Heston and Marco).
FyRE, located where there was once an upmarket Japanese restaurant, has a warm feel. The restaurant’s contemporary decor and warm lighting create an atmosphere that is perfect for intimate dinners and special occasions. I can only imagine the old adage “any publicity is good publicity”, as the restaurant was fully booked. Mr H and I, enjoying a late Valentine’s Day dinner, sat on beautiful timber high tables, in the enclosed alfresco area of the restaurant.

FyRE is not just a haven for meat lovers. The restaurant’s ever-changing menu boasts decadent seafood dishes (like a spicy pasta), hearty lamb shanks, beef cheek ragu and more, there’s something to tempt every palate. Complementing the mouthwatering menu is a decent selection of wines, beers, and cocktails.
The only feedback I could give would be that it would be great to see GF, or GFO marked on their menu. I’m gluten intolerant, and I always feel like such a bother asking waitstaff what dishes are gluten free on a menu. If they say “I think this is gluten free”, it doesn’t fill me with confidence! Also, when they have to go and check with the chef, I know they have better things to do during a busy service. First up, we shared a generous bowl of crispy squid with kewpie mayo and lime. It was more-ish, melt in your mouth good.

Mr H sunk his teeth into a succulent Wagyu scotchy. The top-notch scotch fillet steak was charred to perfection and bursting with smoky, juicy flavour. It was cooked to his liking (medium) and well rested. It is steak cooking 101, but so many other places get this wrong. The kitchen team know what they’re doing at FyRE. It was served with a caper butter, plus potatoes and seasonal veg.

I enjoyed the Humpty Doo Barramundi, plated up with fresh greens, potatoes, and lashings of romesco sauce. The flaky fish was delicious, and moist. The well-seasoned veg rounded out a tasty main.

Dessert was tempting, but we were both pretty full at this point – next time! FyRE restaurant promises to fill your tummy with good food and leave you craving more. With its focus on mouth-watering meats, FyRE Connoly is unforgettable for all the right reasons.
Be sure to book a table and taste the meaty goodness for yourself.
