Yes, I am a food nerd. Sushia has been siting on my excel spreadsheet for a while… It is my never ending list of restaurants in Perth that I want to experience. My Perth food bucket list that I add to almost daily – it never gets shorter! I was delighted when an invite landed in my inbox to dine at Sushia, to preview the newly designed set menu available exclusively for the Eat Drink Perth food festival, which is on now.
Sushia is found in the basement of a Brookfield Place building – near The Heritage. As I stepped into the chic bar, I spied lots of food bloggers enjoying some pre dinner nibbles and cocktails. How did I know they were bloggers?..Well, lets just say it was pretty obvious! The wait staff were so lovely, holding the full trays under a spotlight while we merrily clicked away at the tasty appetisers – I love this chilli edamame.
These little wagyu beef dumplings were divine.
There were lots of beautiful cocktails to try too.
I loved the AKI 75. It’s a refreshing twist on a classical cocktail with Zacapa, honey, fresh ginger and topped with sparkling wine. Cheers!
We then went through to the bustling dining room. Though it’s not part of the Eat Drink Perth menu, we began with a sensational sashimi tasting plate, with salmon, kingfish and beef. It was all as fresh and tasty as could be. I also discovered it had been a while since I’ve used my chop sticks skills! Luckily, it’s like riding a bike.
Next up, the Eat Drink Blog Menu. First the pop corn prawns, which were deliciously tender, with a jalapeño cream on the side. The chili cream thankfully wasn’t as spicy as I was anticipating (I think I’m still having flash backs to that crazy spicy duck dish at Wok St haha) the little wrapped salad was also nicely dressed.
Ever a lover of ribs, I enjoyed the Robatayaki pork rib. The tender ribs are served on a bed of sweet potato chips, garlic chips, ginger salsa and a spicy momoko sauce.
We finished with a “Black Sesame Surprise”. Creamy black sesame, caramelised cashew nuts and Chantilly cream are served with vanilla ice cream. The black sesame worked really well as a component of a dessert – it had a real nutty quality and I’d love to try it again. It’s nice when you discover something a little different!
It was a sweet end to a delicious meal. At $48 it is fantastic value at such a quality restaurant too. Thanks very much for having me Sushia, it was all I thought it would be and more. One down – 213 more restaurants to go!
The Eat Drink Perth Set Menu is available at Sushia till the 23rd of April 2016.
