Samuels on Mill, Perth CBD

The marvellous Mr. H and I share a love of good food, particularly mouth-watering meats, so it was fitting that we shared a scrumptious 600g prime rib for our special anniversary dinner at Samuels on Mill restaurant. And where is this city restaurant? At the very chic Parmelia Hilton.

This classy little spot, just a hop, skip, and jump from St. Georges Terrace, boasts a light and bright bar, as well as the restaurant with cosy booths and moody lighting—perfect for a romantic meal with your love. We started with a couple of drinkies. Beer for Mr H, and a “Primrose” cocktail for me. This pretty drink is a fruity mix of 23rd Street Pomegranate vodka, peach Liqueur, passionfruit, rose syrup, mango syrup, and citrus sorbet – yum!

As well as a great cocktail line up, the extensive drinks menu offers up mocktails, craft beer and a great selection of wines. I always love a Margaret River Chardonay, and this lil Vasse Felix drop is no exception.

The Samuels on Mill Menu

The menu is full of all sorts of goodies and if your gluten intolerant or vego there’s plenty of options. You can go it alone, choosing entrees and mains, or do as we did and share our dishes. Every dish was enjoyed and full of big-hitting flavours. Here’s what we ate:

  • SEARED SCALLOPS with coconut vinaigrette, pickled shallot, coriander, green chilli, and ginger crisps. (GF)
  • LOCAL OCTOPUS with romesco sauce, olive, and chorizo. (GF)
  • BEEF PRIME RIB 600GM with duck fat potatoes, garlic spinach cream, and an amazingly rich jus. (GF)
  • BROCCOLINI with parmesan, tomato, and chickpea cassoulet. (GF)

Our meal began with the seared scallops, which were expertly balanced with sweet and tangy notes, thanks to the coconut vinaigrette. The pickled shallot and green chilli added a refreshing kick, while the ginger crisps brought in a satisfying crunch. Next up was the locally caught octopus. Tender and smoky, the occy meat paired perfectly with the chorizo and nutty romesco sauce.

The star of the show was undoubtedly the 600g beef prime rib – a generous size for two. I assume the jus was made with a master stock, as it was dense, and flavour packed as could be. The impressive cut of meat was delicious – cooked medium (pink) to our liking, well rested so the juices could settle, good char and perfectly seasoned.

The duck fat potatoes were spot on, crisp and fluffy at the same time. And the creamy garlic spinach was to die for.

To round off our mains, the broccolini with its parmesan, tomato, and chickpea cassoulet was a hearty and delicious side that complemented the meat dish perfectly. The chefs sure know what they’re doing here!

For dessert, we were tickled pink by a lovely surprise! Out came a “happy anniversary” chocolate mousse cake, topped with macarons, for us both to share. The cake was rich and decadent, with the perfect amount of sweetness. Thanks so much to the Samuels Pastry chef; we loved this personal touch, and it was so appreciated.

Mr. H and I were well and truly spoiled by the team at Samuels Restaurant. It was our second anniversary, so I was on the lookout for an extra special spot to celebrate. The very same week, an invite for the intimate Samuels landed in my inbox—perfect timing!

A big thanks to the Parmelia Hilton team for hosting us for a very memorable meal.
