This foodie must-try, on the edge of the Wheatbelt, is a destination in itself. Found on Great Eastern Highway, I imagine it’s a mecca for truckies, tradies and farmers who have a taste for good tucker. Only 25 minutes’ drive east of Mundaring, it’s close enough to Perth to make a good weekend lunch destination. Sunday drive, anyone?
You can’t miss the retro 1950s style diner which serves up some of the best barbecue in the region, with smoky, tender meats that actually melt in your mouth.
The atmosphere at Mrs’Sippy BBQ is as warm and inviting as the food. The lively retro diner, or the breezy outdoor deck under a shady tree are both good spots to pull up a chair.
Jules, aka Mrs’Sippy, is an award winning pitmaster and the owner of this fine establishment. From beef brisket to pulled pork, ribs, sausages and allll the sides, every dish is crafted with care and seasoned to perfection. Every delicious bite is a testament to Jules’ hours of meticulous preparation, cooking and love for barbecue. As well as serving at the counter, while we were there, she’d often pop back to the deck to check on the meats in the smoker
No barbecue meal is complete without the sides, and Mrs’Sippy BBQ, Bakers Hill does not disappoint. The “One Shot BBQ Pack” comes with the brisket, which is slow-cooked to perfection, juicy pulled pork and sides of crunchy slaw, buttery cornbread and mac and cheese, with its gooey, cheesy goodness.
I particularly loved the beef brisket, with rich, smokey flavours. I’ve had a few dry briskets in my time, but these slices were as tender and moist as they come. The chips, with Mrs’Sippy 4 seasons are really tasty too.
