If you think The Camfield is BIG, you’d be right! The immense pub, found next to Optus Stadium, is Australia’s biggest pub. Since it opened in a couple of years ago, I’ve visited a few times for drinks. This time, we popped by with our fur-baby Ruby for a bite to eat. I’d not set my expectations high, not for any particular reason, other than it was a big pub. And I’m happy to say they were definitely exceeded.
The Space
There’s plenty of spots to chillax with a beer or two at The Camfield. On the verandas overlooking the river, city and Optus Stadium, or inside the vast pub.
A large beer garden out the back offers live sports on a giant screen and plenty of spots to sit. Furkids are welcome in the outdoor area – perfect for us, as we’d just taken Miss Ruby Roux for a walk along the Swan River.
The Food
On the menu are pizzas, salads shareable bar snacks and more substantial mains. The pan roasted salmon ($34) is served with ultra fresh ‘n crunchy asparagus, a creamy dill lebneh, walnut dressing, lemon and za’atar. It wasn’t marked as GF on the menu, but it was still easily served GF – more about the gluten free offering in a bit…
Pub favourite, Bevy beer battered fish and chips ($24) is served with tartar sauce, fresh rocket and a squeeze of lemon. This golden fried fish was tasty, well cooked and fresh.
A very generous serve of roast pork belly ($28) is served with potatoes, leek, brussel sprouts, apple sauce, a big chunk of pork crackle and gravy. A cracking dish!
The Gluten Factor
There wasn’t a tonne of GF lunch options on the menu… nachos, a prawn salad, crab risotto and the pork belly dish. Whilst the pork belly was mighty tempting, I loved the sound of a salmon dish. It didn’t appear to have gluten in it, other than possibly in a dressing, which I was happy to go without. I don’t usually ask the kitchen if something can be served GF, but in this instance a waitress didn’t mind checking with the Chef if it could be. So glad I did, as it was delicious!
The Camfiled is open 7 days a week. Before visiting, it’s worth checking to see if there’s a large event on at Optus Stadium, as the carpark will be closed. We’ll be back again for sure – The Camfield is well worth stopping by for a bite. The food is well presented, delicious and top quality. We were impressed.
